Two years ago, we at Panaya were brainstorming on how we can disrupt the market for SAP Regression Testing solutions. As a veteran of the testing industry, I’ve spent years tracking the testing market, understanding customer needs and building testing solutions. I felt we could do so much more in that space, by leveraging new technologies such as machine learning and data analytics, on top of our SAP domain expertise.

The Challenge: Business Process-Centricity

However, one of the key challenges we faced, in the crafting of a new testing solution, was finding a way to ensure that test cases used are reflective of the way users work in production – regardless of testing method – manual or automated. Because, in the end of the day, it is the content of the test case that sets the level of quality for any given release, no matter how much your testing solution is easy to use, scriptless, easy to maintain, easy to whatever…

However, one’s ability to produce accurate test cases, with the right content and relevant instructions, is a never-ending story and very labor intensive task, due to frequent changes in the system or the lack of time by the business users. This conundrum led us to developing the concept of Omega – a groundbreaking technology that enables the conversion of business user activities into test cases, with no user intervention.

A Powerful SAP Testing Alliance: Panaya + Tricentis

Once this solution was productized, we wanted to enable SAP customers to easily engage with this excellent tool so we have been looking for partners. Tricentis is recognized as a leader in test automation for business applications by both Gartner and Forrester. It was our partner of choice.

SAP Autonomous Testing was born when two best-of-breed solutions joined forces to provide SAP customers with a zero-touch automation suite.

Here are some of the wonderful things SAP Autonomous Testing can do:

  • Capture user activities in production with no human intervention
  • Cluster recorded activities to automatically select the most representative activities as leading test cases
  • Convert these test cases into Tricentis Tosca automated test cases
  • Enable managers to pilot and monitor test execution, using Panaya Test Center

In addition to providing this disruptive technology to SAP customers, Panaya and Tricentis also worked together to provide a built-in connector to augment Panaya Test Center capabilities with test automation. Customers – whether they are running SAP or any other business application – can now use Panaya Test Center to manage, pilot and monitor their Tricentis Tosca automated test suite.

This powerful new alliance positions Panaya Test Center as the ultimate end-to-end testing platform for business applications, enabling customers to manage the wide range of testing activities, from requirements to integrated acceptance tests.

What’s Next for Test Automation

The last World Quality Report predicts that Testing will represent 40% of the IT spend in 2018. This is certainly due to the increasing number of organizations becoming agile, releasing change faster without compromising on quality, as well as on the increasing complexity of regulations.

Here at Panaya, we never rest on our laurels. Autonomous Testing for SAP was definitely high on our bucket list for 2017, but we are nowhere near done. If you believe, like us, that change management is increasingly taking on a more pivotal role in our world, stay tuned for more innovation.
