SAP Sapphire 2026 highlights: Quality for the “Autonomous Enterprise”

SAP Sapphire 2026 revealed how agentic AI is transforming the autonomous enterprise, from smarter SAP migrations to intelligent ERP automation.

Key takeaways:

  • SAP Sapphire 2026 moved the conversation beyond S/4HANA migration to the rise of the “Autonomous Enterprise” powered by agentic AI.
  • SAP’s new AI platform aims to scale agents across ERP workflows, complementing Tricentis’ efforts to expand agentic quality across the SDLC.

The 2027 S/4HANA deadline still looms large in the minds of SAP customers, but at this year’s SAP Sapphire event, SAP worked to move the conversation beyond cloud migration alone. Instead, they introduced a broader redefinition of what it means to be an “Autonomous Enterprise.”

At the center of this new Autonomous Enterprise strategy is agentic AI. SAP envisions the future enterprise as one that can leverage its business data to power agents across its ERP applications. The company reinforced this message with several AI initiatives at the event — some of which align closely with what we’re building at Tricentis with our new Agentic Quality Engineering Platform.

The foundation for agentic AI – in ERP and in quality

SAP’s “Autonomous Enterprise” initiative is centered around the company’s new SAP Business AI Platform, which brings together SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP Business Data Cloud, and SAP Business AI into a single environment that will power AI agents across the ERP stack.

The platform is organized into three layers:

  • Build: A build layer anchored by Joule Studio, where companies can create customized agents and tailor them to specific business processes and workflows.
  • Context: A dedicated context layer where SAP customers can leverage their data to train and refine AI agents.
  • Governance: A governance layer built on SAP AI Agent Hub for managing, monitoring, and governing these agents.

SAP designed this platform to get customers past AI pilot mode. The framework connects agents to real processes and context, enabling AI to scale across finance, HR, operations, and more.

This agentic approach complements the Tricentis Agentic Quality Engineering Platform. AI Workspace serves as the governance layer for Tricentis’ growing team of AI agents for quality. Each agent is specialized in quality tasks – from test generation to analysis – and is backed by Tricentis’ 20 years of QE expertise and context. Within AI Workspace, these agents communicate with one another, collaborate with humans, and are governed by preset policies and rules. SAP enables the autonomous enterprise by building agents across business applications; Tricentis keeps the autonomous enterprise safe by scaling its own agents across the SDLC.

AI for modernization and migration

At Sapphire, SAP worked to balance near-term priorities with long-term vision. Agentic AI is key to the company’s broader autonomous strategy, but it is also immediately relevant to customers’ biggest priority: S/4HANA migration.

Around the time of the event, SAP renamed the Integrated Toolchain to the Agent-led toolchain, signaling a shift toward a more intelligent, agent-driven approach to migration work. At Sapphire, SAP announced that on-premises customers will gain access to more AI tools and processes to help smooth the transition to the cloud.

Tricentis plays a key role in the toolchain, and our recent SAP Enterprise Continuous Testing announcement reflects this shift toward AI-led migration assistance. Tricentis has introduced SAP ECT by Tricentis, AI-assisted automated test case generation, a new product that enables customers to use SAP AI Units to generate complete, end-to-end test cases from natural language prompts. This is especially valuable during S/4HANA migrations, where the volume of testing increases significantly as systems evolve and move to the cloud. By accelerating test design and reducing ongoing maintenance, AI-assisted testing helps teams keep pace with transformation — while laying the groundwork for the more autonomous, AI-driven enterprise SAP outlined throughout Sapphire.

Context and control: The foundation for enterprise AI

More broadly, SAP Sapphire made clear that successful enterprise AI depends more on having the right context than the right model. In his keynote, SAP CEO Christian Klein described the ERP as “the brain of every company,” the richest source of relevant business data an enterprise has. SAP is betting that the companies with the most mature data foundation and strongest governance frameworks will be best positioned to scale agentic AI across the enterprise.

That same is true for quality engineering. The Tricentis Agentic Quality Engineering Platform governs a team of context-aware agents, each trained in specific quality processes. These governed, specialized agents are essential for scaling agentic AI across the SDLC. Ultimately, this is what the future Autonomous Enterprise will look like – agentic-powered quality and agentic-powered ERP, working together to make innovation faster and safer.
