The qTest Features Our Customers Love the Most

We’ve rounded up a list of the cutest qTest features, according to our customers. There are many reasons people fall in love with qTest and decided to switch to the No. 1 agile test management platform.

Why Customers Fall for qTest

Every time we onboard a customer, we ask them a series of questions about why they chose qTest. This helps us optimize the implementation process and make sure each customer can begin using qTest to solve their specific problems as quickly as possible. But when taken collectively, our customers’ responses have yielded some interesting insights over time. The data has helped us understand the main reasons people choose qTest. Many of these are reasons we expected (and reasons we also love qTest!), but a few came as a surprise. The following list captures the big reasons our customers ultimately chose qTest.

The reason customers most commonly fall in love with qTest include:

  • qTest offers a tight knit Jira integration: This one came as no surprise as many qTest customers use Jira as their ALM tool of choice. qTest provides testers with a real time view into Jira issues, allowing them to design test cases more easily and associate them back to each issue for full test traceability and coverage. Learn more about qTest for Jira test management.
  • qTest makes reporting easier: qTest Insights offers many out-of-the-box reports, making it easy to get started with reporting on day 1. All data from qTest products as well as data from Jira, VersionOne and Rally and test automation tools are available within qTest Insights, making it your one-stop shop for reporting needs.
  • qTest is easy to use: qTest offers an intuitive user experience. User experience is one of the things that we consider first when designing workflows and wireframes. We designed qTest with users in mind so that it is very approachable, and customers easily understand how to use the tool without extensive training or certifications.
  • qTest is flexible: qTest can be completely customized to fit any customer’s workflows and needs. Your qTest instance can consist of multiple projects. Each project can be configured as its own workspace, with its own set of data and reports. Users can be assigned to multiple projects and have different permissions within each project. You can also take advantage of custom site fields.
  • qTest offers out-of-the-box and custom integrations: qTest prides itself on being open source friendly! It is our aim to help our customers make open source more productive, with a variety of out-of-the-box integrations, as well as qTest APIs. qTest APIs have the endpoints you need to centralize test management across your tool stack. Integrate any tool, whether it’s open source, proprietary or custom built.
  • The qTest platform has innovative tools: While qTest Manager is our bread and butter, we were excited to learn that we are loved for our innovative tools – specifically, qTest Pulse and qTest Scenario. qTest Pulse is an advanced rules engine that helps agile teams communicate and collaborate more across all qTest products by automating tool communication across the DevOps pipeline. qTest Scenario is our Enterprise BDD product for Jira, which enables users to create, update, edit and link feature files directly on the Jira interface to any issue type.

Of course this feedback also helps us understand our customers’ wants and needs and prioritize our product updates according to what they care about the most. Feedback is such an important part of our product development process that we’re collecting it just about every chance we get – whether its during our webinars, through surveys, or directly when speaking with customers. The last few years at Quality Jam (now Tricentis Accelerate), our user conference, we’ve asked for more granular feedback about the features customers value the most in their day-to-day. The following are a list of the specific features that have endeared customers to our products – in other words, the cutest qTest features.

The Cutest qTest Features, According to Our Customers

  1. Real-time, two-way updates to Jira: qTest’s Jira integration helps build a seamless connection between qTest and Jira, helping qTest fit perfectly within your Agile SDLC. Any update from Jira will populate in qTest in real time, without any required data synchronization. Many of our customers told us it was a relief that they no longer had to wait for the scheduled syncs that are typical with legacy test management tools. Using the Jira integration, you can import your requirements including releases or sprints, and execute test runs and automatically create defects within Jira with full execution for your development team. For more information on how to get started with the Jira integration see Getting Started with Jira.
  2. Jira qTest iframe: In response to customer feedback, we have enhanced our Jira iframe for qTest to make viewing qTest Test Execution details easier. The view now includes a filter and a summary within each Jira issue. This is beneficial for situations when a Jira issue (user story) is linked to a test case that is executed many times, which results in multiple test runs, such as with a regression test – a common use case for our customers.
  1. Site and custom Fields: Here’s one of the ways qTest offers the flexibility that our customers rely on. qTest allows you to use site and custom fields to tag qTest objects with a variety of information based on your company’s specific needs. Site fields allow you the ability to modify system fields, define values for picklists, and reorder fields. Custom site fields are completely customizable and can be any field type with any value. Both field types are reportable within qTest Insights. For more info on how to get started with Site and Custom fields, check out this Field Settings article on the support site.
  2. Sharing Insights reports: One feature that our customers particularly appreciate is the ability to embed and schedule reports from qTest Insights. Any report or dashboard that is created within Insights can be embedded directly into Confluence. Those who use the Atlassian suite can elevate reports to any individual in Confluence – even those who are not qTest users. qTest also lets users schedule reports for delivery at their preferred cadence, so they don’t have to remember to pull and send them at regular intervals. Learn more about embedding reports and scheduling reports.
  3. Test automation integrations: qTest Launch, our test automation management tool, has quickly become a success since its release last year. qTest Launch allows you to centrally manage automation host machines, as well as the automation agents running on each machine, and schedule test runs across automation tools – all from one interface. You can see which agents are scheduled to run what tests, as well as launch them directly from qTest; which has alleviated the headaches associated with limited visibility into schedules, tools and results in highly automated test environments. Learn how to get started with qTest Launch with our quick-start guide.
  1. Data queries: Data Query is a powerful feature that enables you to find objects based on certain criteria – eliminating time previously spent searching for them manually. This flexible tool can also be used for Batch Edit, Batch Approve, and to generate custom reports that can be shared with other users and exported to a spreadsheet. If you haven’t taken advantage of this feature, see the step-by-step guide on our support site and start saving time today!
  2. Requirement and test case traceability: Test case traceability allow you to answer the questions, Are we writing test cases to cover all of our requirements? And are we behind on writing test cases? To track traceability, you must define the association between your requirements and test cases. This article will tell you how to link your test cases to requirements. For reporting test case traceability, check out the Test Case Traceability Matrix and Insights Coverage Analysis Report.
  3. The import test case wizard: Our import wizard is perfect for customers that use or have used Excel to create test cases or requirements. Our import wizard lets users import test cases directly into specific modules by altering the Excel file’s individual sheet names to align with the modules within qTest Manager. Learn how to import test cases from Excel on the support site.
