Business Setting

The testing team at GBST is comprised of 36 people and focuses on covering both functional and non-functional aspects of the business and technical product prior to release. The test automation project focused on implementing the regression tests identified from Composer Base regression pack to provide a suite of repeatable automated tests that can be used within the testing phases for major and patch releases of composer. The goal of implementing Tricenits Tosca was to move the regression packs for the AU and UK Version of Composer back-office and web from internal test management application to Tricentis Tosca and enable automated test execution.

Business Challenge

The testing process followed at GBST is intensive and repeated regression testing, covered in various testing phases prior to major and patch releases of Composer. As Composer is heavily developed every year, manual test accumulation over the years has increased the testing overhead. GBST Composer has previously undergone test automation using data driven framework and later on by adopting a Keyword based framework where each business operation is implemented as a keyword. While the Keyword based framework reduced maintenance costs and provided scalability to some extent, implementation did not allow non-technical testing staff to interface with the test automation tool without any prior knowledge of the underlying architecture, design or scripting language used.
