Software testing has a bad rap for bottlenecks — and nowhere is that truer than in the SAP world. An overwhelming majority of SAP orgs continue to rely on manual testing practices that can consume up to 30% of implementation budgets, making QA out to be a persistent roadblock to transformation.

To be fair to SAP QA teams, the issue is not as much about inefficiency as complexity. SAP environments are highly customized and span many mission-critical processes, meaning even a small change can necessitate full end-to-end testing cycles.

But the runway for releases has shortened. SAP QA orgs are under pressure to move to S/4HANA and keep pace with AI-assisted development. They are left balancing competing demands: broad risk coverage, speed, and thorough testing of complex SAP scenarios. Teams are struggling to deliver, even with modern tools at their disposal. Today’s SAP landscape calls for a new era of automation – one defined by agentic AI.

The future of SAP software development is agentic

AI agents are not just AI “helpers,” like generative AI chatbots that retrieve and summarize information. They are “doers,” able to independently execute complete workflows after simple prompting.

In QA, AI agents can navigate complex applications and automate high-quality tests while operating far faster than manual or scripted approaches. In other words, the qualities that SAP testing increasingly demands — expertise, automation, and speed — are exactly what agentic AI is designed to deliver.

Earlier this month, Tricentis announced the first Agentic Quality Engineering Platform, powered by AI Workspace — a hub for building and governing a new team of AI agents for quality. These agents automate testing workflows that have long relied on some level of manual effort, from test creation to automation and analysis. Built on Tricentis’ proven technology, the platform and its agents offer the speed and intelligence SAP teams need to keep pace with change.

Test automation is an early proving ground, where AI agents in Tosca can generate SAP tests faster than traditional methods.

Agentic Test Automation in Tosca: Faster end-to-end testing for SAP technologies

Agentic Test Automation, the agentic solution built for Tosca (available as Enterprise Continuous Testing by Tricentis on SolEx), is a key part of Tricentis’ new platform. Agentic Test Automation autonomously builds fully executable test cases across technologies, including SAP GUI and Fiori.

The solution eliminates much of the time-consuming setup required for large SAP projects. It is trained on SAP, alongside other enterprise and web applications, and understands the nuance of SAP Fiori and GUI dataflows. In independently generating complete SAP test cases, it navigates notoriously complex interfaces and auto-populates SAP GUI and Fiori tables and tabs based solely on requirements written in plain language. As shown above, the agents can autonomously execute an entire SAP workflow. Give it an instruction like: “Log into SAP GUI or Fiori, create a sales order, then create an outbound delivery order,” and the agent logs in, maintains line items, verifies statuses, creates the order, and triggers the outbound delivery with the corresponding transaction code — all on its own. The most recent update enables users to execute using Tosca’s SAP GUI and Fiori engine, making test execution more stable across environments. The result is faster SAP scenario generation with the quality and reliability expected from Tosca.

What faster test automation means for SAP

The impact of Agentic Test Automation is substantial. Early adopters showed an 8x acceleration in test creation, cutting the average test creation process from 40 minutes to 5 minutes. Early results also showed a 60% productivity increase as manual test-generation work declined significantly.

Its value grows with one of its newest features – intelligent reuse. Agentic Test Automation can now search for matching historical modules when new test cases are imported, merging and updating them automatically. Given how bloated SAP test libraries can become after years of continuous releases, this feature reduces maintenance and helps declutter accumulated test artifacts.

Agentic Test Automation also extends beyond SAP, covering technologies across the enterprise stack, as well as custom web applications. With this breadth, it can generate reliable end-to-end tests across environments, giving SAP teams a fast and stable tool to validate the integrated business workflows that depend on SAP.

Agentic AI across the SAP testing lifecycle

The latest Agentic Test Automation is now available in the SAP Store, and the first component of the Agentic Quality Engineering Platform to be delivered through SolEx. The wider platform and team of agents, coming to the SAP marketplace in the future, will extend beyond test automation, bringing agentic solutions to other quality areas that have historically slowed SAP teams down.

Agentic Performance Testing, the agentic solution for Tricentis NeoLoad (available as Enterprise Performance Testing by Tricentis on SolEx), automates the full performance lifecycle, from test design to execution to analysis. Built on decades of performance engineering expertise, it’s designed to automate complicated scenarios, such as testing across tightly integrated SAP systems.

Agentic Quality Intelligence, the upcoming agentic solution in Tricentis SeaLights, autonomously analyzes code changes to pinpoint what teams should test, and when. Instead of running broad regressions and hoping critical risks are captured, this agentic solution will provide SAP teams with data-driven test prioritization so they can keep up with current release demands while protecting the business.

A platform built for SAP’s future

Orchestrated and governed in AI Workspace, these agents will work together to automate the entire software delivery lifecycle. As SAP teams face S/4HANA migrations, faster release cycles, and AI-driven development, agentic testing provides the scale and speed needed to keep pace, and a chance to finally shed testing’s long-standing “bottleneck” reputation.
