Driving digital excellence: How a global personal care leader optimized quality engineering with Tricentis

Company overview

In the world of beauty and personal care, delivering a flawless customer experience is just as important online as it is in-store. For one multinational corporation—home to over 40 leading brands across skincare, sun protection, makeup, fragrance, haircare, and more—excellence isn’t just a goal; it’s an expectation.

Software quality is at the heart of the organization’s strategy. Delivering excellence is top of mind for every product manager at the company, and this transpires through each of its 2,000 websites and its more than 200 iOS applications.

Challenges

For a long time, quality assurance and vendor management were distributed over different divisions, but a couple of years ago, the company set up a testing Center of Excellence to become more efficient and to better support the divisions. The mission of the CoE is to identify easy-to-use solutions that are best in class and can easily be scaled up throughout the organization. The CoE also takes care of license management and builds up expertise that can be used by the divisions and brands. In choosing solutions, the CoE has three main criteria:

  • The solution needs to be the best fit for the challenges the organization faces.
  • The vendor needs to be a stable organization that can support the company in the long run.
  • The solution needs to scale to serve the entire multinational organization and need to be able to provide local support globally.

One platform for every testing need

“We don’t have a classical vendor-client relationship with Tricentis,” says the global head of the Center or Excellence. “This is a real partnership. We get privileged support, so our technical questions never go unanswered, and we work closely with the R&D of Tricentis to ensure that the product roadmap matches our needs.”

Testament to that partnership is the fact that the organization uses almost the complete portfolio of Tricentis solutions: Tosca for test automation, Data Integrity for data quality, LiveCompare to make smart decisions on what to test, NeoLoad for performance testing, qTest for test management and Testim for its web and mobile applications. In all, 34 teams globally use the different Tricentis solutions, and ever more divisions are turning to the Center of Excellence to support their QA challenges.

Scaling test automation across a complex IT landscape

After a time-consuming and costly experience manually testing the consolidation of 20+ ECC instances to SAP S/4HANA, the CoE implemented Tricentis Tosca to facilitate automated enterprise app testing at scale. According to one test lead, manual testing throughout the SAP project led to delays that cost the company hundreds of thousands of euros in lost revenue – an experience that highlighted the business-critical need for scalable test automation.

Through the CoE, test automation was rapidly scaled across 30+ teams to increase testing speed and reduce costs across hundreds of enterprise apps in a complex, highly interconnected IT landscape. By automating testing, the team de-risked both individual apps as well as critical end-to-end business processes such as order fulfillment, which spans web, mobile, SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce, and BI tools.

The CoE was then charged with identifying a solution for the120+ business-to-consumer websites that require constant attention. As the different product and brand teams looked to roll out an ever-expanding set of new features to cater to the changing needs of customers, manual testing became untenable. Tricentis Testim was the solution for ensuring that frequent web updates could be rolled out rapidly and consistently. Testing is now kicked off automatically as part of the CI/CD process, which both eliminates manual testing delays and ensures no defects reach production.

Expanding test automation across 100+ websites

Testim was chosen by the company for its ease of use: this is not a tool that is restricted to developers and trained testers. Product owners and product managers also contribute to testing, thanks to Testim’s low-code automation technology. They know their websites and mobile platforms best, and Testim allows them to create new tests as their products evolve.

Testim was quick to deliver tangible results:

  • Using Testim reduced the manual testing effort by about 65%.
  • Since the teams started using Testim, less bugs make it into production, and the teams no longer have to deal with critical defects post-go-live.

By centralizing its quality assurance efforts through the Testing Center of Excellence and leveraging Tricentis’ suite of solutions, this global personal care leader has transformed the way it ensures digital excellence. The partnership has enabled the company to scale automated testing, reduce manual effort, and prevent critical defects from reaching production—resulting in more reliable websites, mobile apps, and digital experiences for customers worldwide.

As more divisions embrace the CoE’s approach, the company continues to strengthen its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and quality, ensuring that every digital interaction lives up to the high standards of its globally recognized brands.
