Raiffeisen Software Group (RSG) is the software company of the Raiffeisen Banking Group Austria and actively shapes the future of banking with more than 800 innovative IT solutions. With around 1,050 employees across six locations — including Linz (HQ), Vienna, and Salzburg — RSG is one of Austria’s largest IT service providers, generating annual revenue of over €170 million (2024).
Nearly every second Austrian is a Raiffeisen customer and therefore comes into contact with RSG’s IT solutions almost daily, either directly or via Raiffeisen bank advisors. These solutions are developed in collaboration with more than 340 banks and financial service providers — around 327 Raiffeisen banks, eight regional banks, and other financial service providers within the Raiffeisen Banking Group.
“The trend in the banking world is digitalization — and the process of software quality assurance as well as the quality of our products play a key role in this,” explains Martin Schütz. As Product Owner for Continuous Test Engineering at Raiffeisen Software, he knows exactly what he’s talking about.
Schütz has been part of RSG since 2006 and has witnessed firsthand how digital transformation has fundamentally changed the company. Particularly impactful was the shift to agile software development: the move to a microservice-oriented architecture modernized not only the technology but also completely rethought processes, including software quality assurance.
“It wasn’t just about speed, but about an entirely new mindset. Agile methods enabled us to respond more quickly to change, collaborate more closely, and integrate quality into every process from the very beginning. I’m glad we fully embraced this change,” says Schütz.
It quickly became clear that major consolidations, migrations, or the introduction of new digital applications could no longer be handled with manual testing alone. Requirements became too complex and development cycles too fast. Test automation was needed — and it came from Tricentis in the form of Tricentis Tosca.

In 2022, a proof of concept was conducted in which various UI testing tools were compared. It soon became clear that Tosca would be the tool of choice.
“Tosca was the only solution that met our entire list of requirements,” recalls Arnold Strasser, Release Automation Engineer at Raiffeisen Software, who led the PoC.
Another decisive factor was the strong support:
“You could really feel that Tricentis was making an effort for us. The results show that we made the right decision,” Strasser adds.
By the end of the same year, Tosca was introduced via a soft rollout, and the first teams were onboarded. What started with five users quickly gained momentum internally. The benefits of Tosca were obvious — from the ease of use enabled by the low-code approach to test creation (allowing even employees without programming knowledge to create and execute test cases with minimal onboarding), to test execution speed, analysis, and reporting.
Word spread quickly. Today, RSG has built an internal test automation community of around 100 users. Another key success factor was full management support for the adoption and expansion of test automation.
“We were surprised by how many requests for Tosca licenses came in from within the company shortly after the soft rollout began. Tosca was a real game changer for us,” says Martin Schütz, Product Owner for Continuous Test Engineering at Raiffeisen Software.
Schütz and his team particularly value the many simplifications Tosca brings to day-to-day work — especially in their agile environment.
“Internal benchmarks showed that test case creation was four times faster than before,” Strasser recalls.
By mid-August 2025, the milestone of 1,000 automated Tosca tests was reached, all of which are executed regularly via the continuous testing platform. These Tosca tests ensure the highest quality for end-customer solutions as well as advisor workstations across the Raiffeisen Group.
Tricentis Tosca has also helped optimize RSG’s internal testing processes. One example is the introduction of the so-called “zone approval” process — a three-stage software release procedure.
This three-phase approach always aims to seamlessly coordinate manual and automated testing. Despite extensive automation, the human factor remains essential:
“Manual testing helps us eliminate UI display issues before they are rolled out at scale,” emphasizes Strasser. “With zone approval, we ensure not only full technical functionality but also that manual test days with business experts are conducted efficiently and with clear objectives.”
Tosca Vision AI also plays a central role in UI testing. This AI-based test automation technology from Tricentis enables test creation based on simple mockups or UI descriptions — even before a single line of code is written.
The result: a “shift left” approach, integrating tests early in the agile development cycle, and a simple equation:
More tests = higher stability = better apps = greater customer satisfaction
The RSG continuous testing team follows a clear vision — Agentic AI. In the future, developers, testers, and business experts involved in building new applications or features will no longer need to actively monitor test dashboards. Instead, specialized AI test agents will operate autonomously: detecting relevant events, analyzing situations, and proactively notifying teams when action or decisions are required.
Schütz and Strasser are aware that this vision will take time to realize. Still, they feel well prepared with Tricentis Tosca for future challenges.
“The software world has never been more exciting. AI is changing our work and our lives. With Tricentis Tosca and Vision AI, we already have the technical foundation for tomorrow — today.”
