Testing with Selenium

Open source testing tools such as Selenium and Appium have gained significant user adoption over the last few years. As a premium Selenium sponsor, we embrace open source tools and technologies and integrate and adopt them whenever we believe it will help our customers and our core constituents the QA teams. With the latest release of Tosca 8.31, we have integrated Selenium into Tricentis Tosca .

I am a Selenium user and I am really amazed on how TOSCA can learn objects in just a few minutes which would take me hours to script in Selenium.

Selenium Testing

Tricentis Tosca helps you reuse both your Selenium 1 and Selenium 2 (Web Driver) test scripts. It can be combined with other supported technologies offered out-of-the-box by Tricentis Tosca to achieve end-to-end test automation of enterprise applications.

PS: Besides the technical benefits of Selenium, we love the name of the tool!!!*

Why Selenium?

Selenium is a cross browser testing and open source software testing tool for web applications.  It is currently gaining momentum in the testing world because of its support from some of the largest browser vendors who have been taking steps to make Selenium a native part of their browser. It is known to excel in early testing, especially with developers who write their test scripts in parallel with developing their applications and use these scripts for regression testing.

What are the challenges Selenium testing?

During regression testing, Selenium scripts can be re-used.  However, if the application continues to change, many of the Selenium scripts end up breaking.  This can lead in confusion of the test results as QA teams can’t be sure if the failure was caused by an application bug or a test script bug.  For applications that change often, maintaining the scripts then becomes a burden. In addition, as Selenium is only focused on web based applications, testers need to augment their testing with other testing tools to perform full end-to-end tests on enterprise systems.

Why Tosca and Selenium?

Selenium is an open source web automation tool that has continued to gain significant developer and tester adoption. Selenium offers multi-browser support and integrates with all major development environments.

By integrating Selenium scripts into Tosca, development and test teams can collaborate and automate end-to-end software tests by leveraging Tosca’s market leading model based test automation, stateful test data management and orchestrated service virtualization capabilities.

Benefits of using Tosca with Selenium Integration

  • Leverage all existing Selenium testing
  • Full automation of end-to-end testing
  • Full automation of GUI and API testing
  • Manage tests effectively and efficiently
  • Unified Reporting

*Selenium is a chemical element with symbol Se and atomic number 34. What Selenium is best known for is that it is the best antidote for Mercury poisoning!!) We believe both Selenium Webdriver and Tricentis Tosca are both great antidotes to Mercury testing products!
