What is “Defect Density”?

The  “Defect Density” DevOps quality metric looks at the percentage of requirements that are correlated to API tests. It can be measured at different granularities, depending on what’s most important for your organization. 

How “Defect Density” Ranks vs. Other Quality Metrics

In new Forrester research on DevOps quality metrics, DevOps leaders ranked “Defect Density” as the #3 most valued integration/API testing quality metric. Of the 39% of DevOps leaders who measured this metric, 63% of them ranked it as one of their most valuable DevOps quality metrics. This metric was not found to be a “DevOps Differentiator” (DevOps experts/leaders measured it significantly more than DevOps laggards did).
